Theory of kink migration in dilute BCC alloys

چکیده

Plastic deformation in elemental BCC metals and dilute alloys is controlled by the slower of kink pair nucleation migration processes along screw dislocations. In facilitated inhibited, leading to a concentration- temperature-dependent transition from dominance dominance. Here, an analytical statistical model for stress-dependent barrier developed validated. The depends only on clearly-defined solute/screw dislocation interaction parameter, width, length between jogs. analytic extensively validated via fully atomistic nudged-elastic band calculations stochastic simulations Fe-Si alloy. Combined with recent double-kink theory, fully-analytic temperature- concentration-dependent flow stress obtained that includes control. overall applied W-Re using independently-determined material properties good agreement experiments over range concentrations temperatures. Overall, two theories represent unified, fully-statistical, parameter-free understanding strength alloys.

Theory of magnetoresistance in films of dilute magnetic alloys

Theory of magnetoresistance in films of dilute magnetic alloys. Abstract Giordano measured the magnetoresistance of dilute magnetic alloys Au(Fe) films of different thickness. Theory for the electromigration wind force in dilute alloys

A multiple scattering formulation for the electromigration wind force on atoms in dilute alloys is developed. The theory describes electromigration via a vacancy mechanism. The method is used to calculate the wind valence for electromigration in various host metals having a close-packed lattice structure, namely aluminum, the noble metals copper, silver, and gold, and the 4d transition metals. ...

Twin migration in Fe-based bcc crystals: theory and experiments

We establish an overall energy expression to determine the twin migration stress in bcc metals. Twin migration succeeds twin nucleation often after a load drop, and a model to establish twin migration stress is of paramount importance. We compute the planar fault energy barriers and determine the elastic energies of twinning dislocations including the role of residual dislocations (br) and twin...

Wetting phenomena in bcc binary alloys

The wetting behavior at the free (100) surface of a bcc binary alloy exhibiting a continuous order-disorder transition in the bulk is investigated theoretically, using a model equivalent to a bcc Ising antiferromagnet in an external magnetic field. Its salient feature is the generation of an effective ordering surface field , g1 6= 0, for certain symmetry-breaking surface orientations like (100...

Double kink mechanisms for discrete dislocations in BCC crystals

We present an application of the discrete dislocation theory to the characterization of the energetics of kinks in Mo, Ta and W body-centered cubic (BCC) crystals. The discrete dislocation calculations supply detailed predictions of formation and interaction energies for various double-kink formation and spreading mechanisms as a function of the geometry of the double kinks, including: the depe...
